Snetterton 24 hour race - SAFETY CAR drivers wanted!

Weekend of 28th - 31st August - so you may be on site anyway :-)

A lot of grads drivers have done this in the past - basically it involves sitting in Dr Palmer's BMW for a couple of hours, waiting for a 2CV to plough up the Norfolk countryside.  And then driving round very slowly until the offending snail is returned to the black stuff.

That's not quite as easy as it sounds (have you tried driving on track at a constant 50mph?), and the hours can be a bit antisocial (it is a 24 hour race after all).  But you get to see a race from another viewpoint, a few free laps of Snett, some food vouchers, and (on past experience) a goody bag from the
2CV club. If you're a novice, it also gets you an upgrade signature if you can find a willing clerk. Given that I'm one of the clerks, that shouldn't be a problem.

The race itself (i.e. the bit I need drivers for) starts on the Saturday. Start time is currently TBC, but is expected to be around 5pm. SC Drivers generally do 1 or 2 sessions of 2 hours, meaning I need 6-8 drivers total. It's usually possibly to fit the rota around who wants to do what.

If you can be there on Friday evening, there will be a late practice session: having a lap or two of Snetterton in the dark is helpful as I swear the circuit is bigger at night.

All you need is to ever have held a National B race license (or better) and a willingness to spend a few hours at Snetterton.

Of course Covid-19 countermeasures will mean a few tweaks are needed this year. Normally there would be a marshal in the passenger seat to operate the radio. We are looking at a few options here: (1) we keep the marshal but mandate masks are worn at all times in the car (full face helmet = mask for the driver, but not really an option for the radio operator!) (2) if there is someone from your household / team who has an open face helmet and can be trusted with a radio, we deputise them, or (3) we have only the driver in the SC (*not* the preferred option). We've also got gallons of disinfectant to use at driver changes.

If you're interested please drop me a line - with any observations on the Covid options - at [email protected]
